I’m so excited to announce the launch of Caring Kitchens, Crafty Cookbook’s charitable giving program! This has been a dream of mine since before Crafty Cookbook even existed.
Ever since I learned that recipe websites earn money through display ads, I’ve thought “how cool would it be if money generated by people browsing free recipes was directed to charities fighting hunger.” The idea that people are just cooking dinner for their family, and that’s helping to put dinner on the table for those in need.
While a portion of the money earned through Crafty Cookbook has been donated to hunger relief charities from the start, I’m excited to roll this into a more formal program. I’m also hoping to use this program to bring more awareness to cases of hunger and food insecurity locally and worldwide, and to encourage others to donate as well. I have a lot of ideas for how I want to expand the reach of this program, I really hope this is just the beginning.
We’re starting Caring Kitchens with a $150 recurring monthly donation, but as the site grows this amount will grow in unison. I wish it was more than $150, but per one of my favorite quotes - “If you can’t feed a hundred people, feed just one” - Mother Teresa.
To start out, the program will consist of a $50 recurring donation to No Kid Hungry, and a $100 donation to rotating hunger relief charities each month. November’s donation went to Action Against Hunger, funding relief for those affected by the crisis in Lebanon.
This money is coming directly out of the revenue generated when ads are displayed on the website as users browse recipes.
If you want to read more about the program, learn about the causes we’re supporting, or nominate a charity for an upcoming donation, check out the new Caring Kitchens page on the website!
The website also just hit another major milestone, our recipe pages have been viewed over 1 million times! This timing was actually a coincidence, but it’s a lovely reminder of how far this project has come, and how many home kitchens it has touched.
Thank you so much for your support!
What a generous project! Nicely done.
